Wheat Productivity Enhancement Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | On-going | The economy of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa is agrarian in nature where 80 percent of the total population is rural and agriculture is their major source of livelihoods. Agriculture contributes 22 percent to the provincial GDP and provides employment to 40 percent of the labor force. However, 31 percent of the provincial population continues to be food insecure with high rate of malnourishment. (Agr. Policy 2015-2025). | The objectives of the project are in line with the overall objectives of agriculture sector. The specific goals and objectives of the sector as set in the Agriculture Policy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2015-2025 are; To enhance sector productivity and competitiveness by activities such as improving the technology dissemination and trade promotion; To address food security and incomes needs of the vulnerable sections of the population and targeted actions are needed to improve food security, reduce poverty and enhance the role of women. To improve national resource management, adaptation to climate change and disaster risk management. The main objective of the project is to enhance per acre wheat productivity to secure food security for the growing population in the province. Following are the specific objectives of the project: Ensure supply of 21563 MT certified seed to the farmers on subsidized rate. Timely availability of 11760 bags of fertilizers (Phosphorous & Potash) to the farming community subsidized rate. Expansion in mechanized farming by providing 306 Nos. of different machineries (225 Nos. permanent raised bed making machine, 30 Nos. Zero Tillage drill & 50 Nos. Wheat reaper) to the farmers on subsidized rate to boost productivity. Transfer of improved technology dissemination through laying out of 278000 acres demo plots on weeds control & 2000 Nos. of demo plots on ICM technology, 130Nos. of mega farmers gathering, 40 Nos. of mass mobilization events, 134 Nos. of appreciation events, distribution of 50000 brochures, charts& Phenoflax, 08 Nos. of documentaries, 20 Nos. of TV program & 18.5 million of SMSs / robo calls. Ensure supply of 336 MT certified seed to the farmers. Timely availability of 709 bags of fertilizers (Phosphorous & Potash) to the farming community Expansion in mechanized farming by providing 47 Nos. of different equipments/ implements to the farmers to boost productivity. Transfer of improved technology dissemination through laying out of 240 acres demo plots on ICM, IPM, weedes will be controlled in 14456 acre of rice crop by use of weedicides, distribution of 41500 brochures/slogan books & crop calendar, 2.00 million of SMSs / robo calls. Sugar Cane Productivity Enhancement Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | On-going | Sugarcane plays an important role in the livelihood of farmers in the farming system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Its area in the province is almost static and hovers around 100,000 hectares annually. Its cultivation is mainly concentrated in Peshawar Valley consisting of Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand & Khyber which can be rightly called the northern belt and Bannu, DI Khan and Tank which can be named the southern sugarcane belt. It engages a significant amount of manpower in the plantation, harvesting, post-harvest processing and marketing. With a production of 56 million tonnes(Crop Statistic, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2016-18) it feeds 7 sugar mills and over 20,000 ghaanis in the province. | The objectives of the project are in line with the overall objectives of agriculture sector. National Oilseeds Productivity Enhancement Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | On-going | The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agriculture Policy 2015-2025 document further identifies that the province is facing an alarming situation with respect to food security and nutrition. Under nutrition is one of the main causes of death among infants and young children, and a very disturbing 48% of the child population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are stunted (shorter than expected for age group) with undernourishment impacting the development of their brains and affecting their productivity throughout the life. | The objectives of the project are in line with the overall objectives of agriculture sector. Introduction of hybrid and other high yielding varieties of oilseed crops among the farmers through demonstrations at 60 acres. Timely availability of inputs including certified seed & fertilizer to the farming community. Expansion in mechanized by providing 13 sets of different machineries (combine header, thresher, drills/planters) to the farmers to boost productivity.
