Project Summary a) Scale-up existing pilot tele-farming project in the province. b) Improve the standard of extension services by establishing a provincial information repository of agriculture. c) Provide timely access to reliable, relevant and useful information to all stakeholders in a friendly format according to needs of the stakeholders, especially the farming community for enhanced per unit productivity. d) Dissemination of modern farming techniques to the farming community through innovative ICTs. e) Strengthen linkages among farmers, research and extension though ICT. f) Implement a Management Information System in agriculture department for efficient service delivery and monitoring. g) Provide access to relevant information for future planning and research. h) Inculcate the use of ICT by farmers and field staff for the solution of agriculture-related problems.
Project Detail Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has an area of 74,521 square kilometres; its population is estimated to be around 30.5 million as of 2017 (Source: Development Statistics of KP, 2018). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a rich history and culture, consisting of many tribes. The dominant language spoken in the province is Pashto, followed by Seraiki, Hindko, Kohistani, and Khowar. The climate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa varies immensely, from high temperatures, dry winters, to snow-laden mountainous regions. However, the climate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can broadly be classified as tropical monsoon. The plain areas of the province are very fertile and some of the hilly areas also produce good crops. According to the Development Statistics of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2018, geographical area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa consists of 10.17 million hectares, out of which reported cultivable area is 5.63 million hectares. Out of this, 1.63 million hectares is cultivated, and 1.08 million hectares is culturable waste, signifying the fact that more area could be brought under cultivation. There are 1.39 million farms, out of which 64.3% farms have a size less than 2.5 acres (Source: Development Statistics of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2018). The main Kharif crops include Maize, Rice and Sugarcane and Rabi season crops are Wheat, Gram, Barley, Rapeseed & Mustard, Tobacco. Besides, Onion, Potato, Tomato, Okra, Chillies, Cucumber are the major vegetables produced in the province. Major fruits grown are Peach, Plum, Pear, Apricot, Citrus, Guava, Date and Apple
